Lady Hawkins’ School

A small group of Lady Hawkins’ students were invited to the Honda Swindon Academy to meet ASIMO (Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility), the worlds most advanced humanoid robot. The students have been involved with the Honda School of Dreams programme since September last year and as part of their legacy project they are investigating ways to improve the school environment, mainly by the reduction of littler.

Working with their Honda Schools partner, Steels of Hereford, the students have been working on a specific problem and that is to eradicate the use of disposable plastic drinks bottles in their school. “They create such a mess around the school and are the biggest cause of litter, they’re also dangerous too” said Georgia Murkin. As reward for their innovative proposals the nine students were personally invited by Honda to have a meeting with the $3,000,000.00 robot, watching it perform a number of complex tasks and talking to ASIMO’s creators. “It’s amazing!” said Timothy Nicholas, “I can’t believe how small it is and when it started running in circles I couldn’t believe how fast it was”.
